Pre-Op Instructions
- Consultation with Surgeon
- Stop smoking & alcohol intake at least 2 weeks before surgery
- Anticoagulants, vitamins, hormones (including birth control pills)
- Anti-depressants & some other medications also to be stopped at least 2 weeks before surgery.
- An incision is made either inside the mouth (along the lower lip) or on the skin underneath the chin
- The skin is separated from the bone to create a pocket
- The silicone implant is positioned over the bone
- The wound is closed with stitches
- Pressure dressing is applied over the wound
Post-Op Instructions
- Normal activities may be resumed the following day
- Sleep on 2 pillows/keep head elevated so as not to aggravate swelling
- Apply cold compress to the area for 48 hrs. (swelling subsides 48-72 hrs)
- If present, bruising and swelling will fade in 2 weeks
- Dental hygiene is important especially for intra-oral incisions
- Avoid lifting heavy objects for the 1st 10 days
- Avoid aerobic exercises or any contact sports 4-6 wks post-op
- Follow-up with the doctor and stitch removal (extra-oral incision) will be 7 days after surgery
- Some may opt to take 2 weeks off from work
